Pattern Testing: Sash Swimsuit By Call Ajaire

So remember how I said I was no longer afraid of sewing swimwear? Well, not only am I not afraid anymore, but I’m actually in love! Once you get the hang of it, swim suits are so fun and rewarding to sew. Part of my new found confidence comes from being able to be a part of the testing process of this brand new pattern that was just released today, The Sash Swimsuit by Call Ajaire.

Check out all the options this pattern comes with!

I’ve always wanted to be a pattern tester, so I was so thrilled when Ajaire choose me as one of the testers. My husband was really confused about my excitement….”Let me get this straight: you provide your own fabric, print your own pattern, spend hours working on it, provide feedback, and you don’t get paid?” Yep, but it’s an honor to be chosen, it’s a great way to get to know other sewists, it provides me a new challenge, and it gives a greater appreciation for what goes on behind the scenes during the pattern making process. It was a really neat experience, and I hope I’m given the opportunity to do it again.

The baby needed a cookie for bribery!

These swimsuits turned out ADORABLE if I do say so myself. When I took them to the pool to get photos, we got so many ooooohs and aaaaaaaaghs and compliments. The fabric is from Purple Seamstress. I’m a sucker for making matching outfits for my girls and I’m pretty sure I love everything about these suits. I really like the asymmetrical design, and that flounce has got to be my favorite feature. I prefer two piece suits for my twins just for the ease of potty breaks. However, with a lot of their store-bought suits, the bottoms are too big and they spend half their pool time trying to avoid a wardrobe malfunction. The bottoms fit them perfectly!

I made the one piece for the baby, and was just as amazed at how perfectly it fit her. No saggy bum, no digging in at the shoulders, just delicious baby cuteness!

The are tons of options with this pattern. Two piece, one piece, flounce, sash, colorblocking, short
sleeve, long sleeve, or just a plain suit. Ajaire also has a free swim skirt pattern on her website that I’m dying to try.

The instructions for the pattern had a whole section on tips for sewing with swimwear that were invaluable. If you’ve never sewn a swimsuit this is a great one to try! The pattern is on sale for $5 through the 26th so don’t miss it! Psst….the Classic Maillot is also on sale so be sure to check that one out too. Ajaire is blogging about swimwear all next week with lots of fun things planned. So don’t forget to follow along.
