Pattern Testing: Love Notions Rockford Raglan
As you most likely know by now, Love Notions* is one of my absolute favorite PDF pattern companies. I feel like their patterns are perfectly made for my body, and I love everything I’ve ever made using their patterns.Their newest release is no exception! I was able to be on the testing team for the brand new Rockford Raglan, and let me tell you, it’s a winner!
The Rockford Raglan* just released today and has a special introductory price going for this week. So make sure to get your copy ASAP. I’ve made other raglan patterns before, but this pattern has some fun and different features that set it apart from other raglans. First this pattern has 4 distinct views that allow you to create completely different tops. There is a swing top, a swing tunic, a straight bodice with a band, or an asymmetrical tunic. During testing, I got to try out the swing tunic. The flowy shape is easy to wear, comfortable, and totally on-trend. With this style of shirt, you definitely need to have a fabric that is light and has good drape. I used this pretty floral rayon/spandex blend from Knit Pop. There are also different sleeve options available to make this a year round pattern. I went with the long sleeve and cuffs.
As if there wasn’t enough options in this pattern, I went ahead and hacked it to make a dress! It was so simple too. All I did was start with the tunic pattern and add length on to the hem. I followed the trajectory of the lines to keep the flowy shape and make a swing dress. The amount of length you need to add is totally dependent on your body and the look you’re going for. I forgot to write it down, but I think I added about 12 inches. (I’m 5′ 7″) I’m usually all about the pretty florals or conservative solids, but I stepped way outside my comfort zone with this one. I used this animal print double bushed poly fabric from Purple Seamstress to create this bold dress. I can say with a fair degree of certainty that I’ve never worn animal print before, but this dress has won me over! I can dress it up with fancy earrings and leather boots for a date night with the hubby, or pair it with some tan booties for a more casual look.
Don’t forget to pick up your copy of the Rockford Raglan today while it’s on sale!
