Laela Jeyne Patterns Summer Collection Tour
When I found out Laela Jeyne Patterns was releasing a summer collection, I was really excited to see what they would come up with. I was even more excited when I was given the chance to be a part of the debut tour for the collection. My only problem was choosing which patterns to try! As part of the collection, they released several women’s and girl’s patterns. Make sure to check out the other bloggers on tour to see the full showcase of the new patterns. I’ll post the schedule at the bottom. After much deliberation, I decided to sew up the Rosie Circle Skirt and the Vi Vi Swimsuit.
(Disclaimer: Laela Jeyne Patterns graciously supplied these patterns to me, but all opinions expressed are my own. Also, this post does contain affiliate links. When I was debating which patterns to try, I realized I could be smart and kill two birds with one stone! I hadn’t made my girls outfits for the 4th of July yet and I thought the Rosie Circle Skirt * would be perfect! Circle skirts are such a quick sew (which I so appreciate when I’m sewing three of something!) and my girls love a good twirling skirt. The coolest thing about the Rosie is the options. You’re really getting three skirt patterns in one! There is an option for a full circle skirt (for major twirlyness), a half circle skirt (for a fun swish), or a quarter circle skirt (for a slimmer look.) There are also instructions for using knit or woven fabric with a zipper, so really you could make six different looks with one pattern!
I chose to go with the half circle skirt in knit fabric. I can tell my girls love their skirts just by the way they walk and swish them and twirl around. I paired these skirts with the Emmy Tee,* also by Laela Jeyne Patterns. The Emmy is not part of the new Summer Collection, but it is a must-have staple pattern. Not only is it a basic tee shirt pattern, but it includes some fun add-ons like the triangle side accent, a cowl neck, a hood, and three different kinds of elbow patches.
As you may have noticed from my recent posts, I’ve been on a swimsuit kick lately. Now that I’ve figured out how to sew with swim fabric, I can’t stop! So of course, when I found out there was a swimsuit in the Summer Collection, I couldn’t pass up trying it. The Vi Vi Swimsuit * is 100% adorable!!! I mean, check out that beautiful ruffle, crossover neckline.
Many people are intimidated by sewing swimwear, but the instructions on the pattern were very clear and I didn’t have any problems following it. The bindings on the neckline and the arm holes, were a new technique for me, but I just followed the directions and crossed my fingers. And what do you know? It turned out great. That said, swimwear, is never a “quick sew.” I timed myself just out of curiosity. I spent an hour printing and taping the pattern, tracing and cutting the correct size, and cutting out the fabric. Then, I spent two hours on the actual sewing. I’d say it was three hours well spent, amiright?
My only caution to you is make sure you check the finished measurements chart when choosing your size. I made the mistake of not checking the finished length and it ended up about an inch shorter than I would have liked. I’m afraid it will dig into Baby Girl’s shoulders, so I may hack it into a 2 piece.
I had just enough of this fabric from Purple Seamstress leftover from my suit that I posted about earlier this week for the Swimsuit Edition Tour, so now we are twinners! You know I love a good Mommy and Me outfit 🙂
Be sure to go to the Laela Jeyne Patterns* site to see the full Summer Collection. Also there are giveaways happening all week! You can find the details on their blog. Thank you for stopping by my blog! Also, check out the other bloggers on tour this week and give them some love. I’ll post the schedule below.
